- Bachelor's Degree from UCSC in Electrical Engineering
- Masters Degree from UCSC in Electrical Engineering
- Honors in Electronic Engineering [Honor Roll, UCSC 2006]
- Currently working at NASA Ames developing carbon nanotube gecko tape for Atlas Nanotechnologies
- Pioneered the nano-gigapan project to take very large images of very small things
- Worked at NASA developing macroscopic wires from carbon nanotubes through an electrospinning process
- Led SeaSight Project to build an underwater laser line-scanning imaging system
- Was a developer on the Nanomouse Project
- Key contributer to the Burning Man Network Kiosk Project
- Key contributer to the Burning Man Technomadic Trailer
Currently he resides in Mountain View, CA.
Jay is Tony Longson and Janet Longson's son. His older brother is Tom Longson.
